Isabel Deisenhofer, MD
GERMAN HEART CENTRE MUNICH, MUNICH, GERMANY
After medical school at the Technical University of Munich, I entered in 1997 the German Heart Center in Munich and was early attracted by clinical EP. The head of EP group, Professor Claus Schmitt, became my mentor, and supported me in pursuing in parallel to clinical cardiology training clinical research in EP. With a 1.5 year research grant of the German Research Society (DFG), I had the unique chance to be part of the EP group in Bordeaux with Michel Haissaguerre. There, my interest in all questions regarding AF pathophysiology, AF mapping and AF ablation has been raised and never quit me thereafter. After Prof. Claus Schmitt left, I became team leader of the EP group in the German Heart Center in Munich. Today, I am heading together with Prof. Gabriele Hessling (focus on pediatric cardiology and GUCH patients) and Prof. Christof Kolb (focus on cardiac devices) the Department of Electrophysiology at Munich Heart Center, one of the largest EP centers in Germany and Europe.
Our research focus is the mapping and ablation of complex cardiac arrhythmias, especially paroxysmal and persistent AF, as well as complex left atrial tachycardias and ventricular tachycardia in non-ischemic CMP.
Although work is a big part of my life, my family (I married in 2009 and we have two children) holds the most important place in my life.
